Belgrade in a photographer’s sense of mind
Monday, 1 September 2008
I have been in Belgrade for about a week now. It’s my second time here, I was in Belgrade almost exactly 4 years ago and there’s been some big changes during this time. The whole city feels bigger, possibly because there’s more people here now and there are new buildings as well.
The weather here has been good, not as good in Sarajevo about two weeks ago but the summer is almost over here now. We have had some hot days between 30-40 degrees so no reason to complain too much ;)
I’ll be posting pictures of Belgrade and Sarajevo later on. Unfortunately, I’m not able to work with my RAW images from my camera while I’m on trips so will have to solve that for my next trip. I’m going to try to come back to Sarajevo next year for the film festival, it’s really worth it, especially in a photographer’s sense of mind. And if money allows I’m back here in Serbia in a few months.
From my visit in Sarajevo and Belgrade I have realized that I need to do something about my camera equipment, especially when shooting at night or in pubs/clubs. While I’ve been here I rented a Canon 17-40mm/4 lense which have worked great, very good quality but there are better wide-angle lenses in low light situations.
So I’m planning to replace my Canon EF 70-200mm/2.8 IS (which I left at home) to Canon EF 100mm/2.8 Macro, Speedlite 580EX and Canon 50mm/1.4. Possibly also buy a normal zoom with some wide angle like Canon 24-70mm/2.8 and the Canon 35mm/1,4 is interesting too for street photography.
There will most likely come out a new Canon 5D within a month or so, so it’s also time to upgrade my 4 year old camera. It never hurts to have a backup anyway :) I will really miss my 70-200mm lense, that one is really amazing but I never had use for the IS on it and this lense is more suited for sport photographers which I’m not.
Until next time…
